Wedding Day Disaster Preparedness

Even when you have every detail of your wedding meticulously planned, things can go wrong. Whether the weather turns bad or your bridesmaid gets blotto, there’s no need to cry. By being prepared for disaster, you can often prevent things from becoming a problem.

Bad weather

If you’re planning an outdoor Toronto wedding, you run the risk of having bad weather upset your plans. The simple solution to this is to have a Plan B for your day. This might be having an indoor venue ready in case of rain, or having a tent for the event, or even offering guests umbrellas as a wedding favor.

Cake catastrophes

A ten-tiered cake might be your dream, but a big cake comes with the risk of gravity wreaking havoc. If your cake collapses, or your cake table gives out, there’s not a lot you can do other than laugh it off and enjoy the delicious disaster. You can prepare by working with your baker to ensure that you know the weight of the cake and how it will need to be supported.

Drunk guests

If a guest, or member of the wedding party, gets too jovial in their celebration of your wedding, you might have to handle an awkward situation. While you can’t control what every guest does, you can appoint a person to intervene in any behavior problem situation. This could be your wedding planner or a member of your bridal party. This will help ensure the unruly guest doesn’t disrupt things without you having to worry about it on your big day.

Many wedding problems come from bad planning. When you work with a fantastic Toronto wedding planner, you can be sure you have the wedding of your dreams. To find out more about what we can offer, get in touch today!

Marco and Arminda’s Cool Glamor Wedding

We had the privilege of working on creating the wedding of Marco and Arminda. This beautiful couple’s wedding used the cool colors of blue and silver for a glamorous look.

DSC_0073 (3)

Their church ceremony was given minimal decoration, as the venue itself was breathtaking with its artwork. Each aisle was marked by a simple vase holding a candle.

This minimalist decor was carried over to their reception, where it was given a bit of bling.

For their florals, Marco and Arminda chose arrangements of hydrangeas and roses. These blooms were used both in bouquets and in the tall silver vase centerpieces.

To add an extra element of glitz, the reception included touches of mirror and crystals. Both of these caught the blue light of the room and the flickering light of the candles for a great effect.

Marco and Arminda’s top table put them in a regal standing with white throne-like seats. The shape of these thrones was also mirrored in their beautiful square-tiered wedding cake.

Overall, the style of their wedding was glamorous with a touch of bling. We loved working with them to create the wedding of their dreams and would love to work to create yours, too. Give us a call to find out what we can bring to your big day.

How To Start Your Wedding Planning

He’s asked and you’ve said yes. You have a gorgeous engagement ring. Now, though, comes the hard work of planning the perfect wedding. Do you know where to begin?

The best way to start your wedding planning is to find a professional wedding planner. Look for somebody who knows the ins and outs of planning the perfect Toronto wedding.

A Toronto wedding planner can work with you to start determining the big aspects of your dream wedding. This includes choosing a date (or narrowing it down to a few possible dates) and choosing a theme or overall style of wedding.

You won’t need to work out all the details just yet, but having a big picture is a good way to start. However, if there are some details that you know you absolutely want included, they can help form the basis of your theme and overall design.

Another big step in your wedding planning, and one that should happen early in the process, is setting your budget. Figuring out what you can afford to spend may not be the most fun part of planning, but it is easily one of the most important. Knowing your budget will make all of your wedding planning go much easier, too.

2. A wedding planner can help you secure the best venues. Wedding planners have special relationships with all the best Toronto wedding venues and can often help you book a venue that you didn’t think was possible or a hidden gem you didn’t even know existed.

3. A wedding planner can help you stay on budget. Whatever you wedding budget, you need to stick to it. With industry discounts and an eye on doing things right the first time, a planner can keep you on target.

4. A wedding planner will make sure nothing is overlooked. From flowers to the best man’s thank you gift, a wedding planner knows every last thing you’ll need for the perfect wedding.

6. A wedding planner can help you organize a wedding from afar. If you want a Toronto wedding but live too far away to do the day-to-day work required to plan it, a wedding planner can work on your behalf.

7. A wedding planner will let you keep up with your regular life. Wedding preparations can quickly take over every last second of your life. A wedding planner will help you carry on with all the things you enjoy doing, and will keep your wedding from interfering with your work.

Elegant Calla Lilies

Cala Lilies are a beautiful, classic approach to florals and can add a lot to the architecture of an event! Recently, we were given the opportunity to play with calla lillies at a green, black, and white color-schemed soiree, and absolutely loved it. Take a look at how we styled the event:

Underwater flowers added a modern touch to the affair – and the candles on top illuminate them, to bring out the beautiful greens and ivories below!

The calla lily’s long and unique shape allows it to be a bold decor piece even without a vase! Laying them directly on to tables, with candles and jewels, is an elegant way to display your florals.

And of course, no wedding is complete without a gorgeous cake – like this calla inspired cake that was a real “wow-factor” at our event!

Happy planning!

Bridal Style: The Updo

Up or Down? Curled or Straight? Accessories? Veil? Lots of questions pop up when it comes to bridal hair styles. Which style is the right fit for you?

5723130 For a formal affair or a glamorous look, we love a good updo (left)! Pulling your hair up is also a great way to show off a dress with in intricate or detailed top.

Whether you choose a sleek bun, classic curls, or intricate braiding, updos are a great, fresh way to celebrate in style. Accessories and veils are great pairs for updos – add a flower behind your ear, a headband to accent your style, or a veil to wear on top of or underneath the ‘do.

Right now, we especially love the look of a sleek updo paired with a birdcage veil. Sleek and minimalistic, this pairing adds beauty and a sense of style without taking away from the glam of your dress, your makeup, and your beautiful smile.

Summer Florals

Summer time is just around the corner! Flowers are in bloom and the choices seem endless. As a bride, where do you start when it comes to bouquets and decor? Here are some of our favorite picks this season:

#1 Hydrangea

Hydrangea – originating in the Americas and Asia – are a great summer flower. They are big and voluminous, and can provide large bouquets on a smaller budget. Color options are endless with these flowers: though white is the most common color, hydrangeas can be found in pinks, blues, purples, and reds.  Hydrangea is also a great “filler” flower. Add oomph to your bouquet or centerpiece with hydrangea, and mix in an assortment of other flowers to add variety.

#2 Calla Lilies

Calla Lilies are a sleek flower – a great fit for a modern affair. These flowers bloom most frequently in Southern Africa, and come in whites and warm tones, including reds, oranges, yellows, and pinks. Calla Lilies work beautifully as a bouquet, and can also be stylized into tall and elegant centerpieces.

#3 Chrysanthemums

Chrysanthemums, also known as “mums” or “chrysanths,” come from Asia and North Eastern Europe, while the name comes from Greece: the Greek words, chrysos (gold) and anthemon (flower). There are over 30 varieties of Chrysanthemums, making your color options endless. These florals are great for bright color schemes – as they often are available in bright yellows, oranges, and hot pinks.

#4 Orchids

Orchids are luxurious, known for their gorgeous colors and unique shapes. Though they are on the pricier side, different types of orchids cater to different price ranges – with dendrobium and mokaras orchids as the least expensive options and phalaenopsis and cymbidium orchids as the most expensive options. These flowers come in a variety of colors as well, allowing you to find the perfect match for your wedding’s theme and color scheme. We especially love the bright green and pink varieties below:
