2013 Trend: Rustic Chic

2013 is just around the corner – as are some great up and coming wedding trends, including one of my favorites: “rustic chic.” From burlap to boots, raw wood to gorgeous floral arrangements, rustic chic offers a world of fun and original possibilities to brides and grooms everywhere.

Obviously, a rustic theme can be taken outdoors, like this gorgeous ceremony shared by Emmaline Bride:

But “outside” isn’t the only option. Looking for an indoor venue? Get creative: wooden buildings, big windows with lots of nature in view, and even barns can make for a  beautiful setting! Jessica and Travis, from California, took their reception inside an old barn and added fantastic rustic flair with framed mirrors on the walls, hanging chandeliers, and wooden chairs:

Rustic charm can lie in the details, too. For florals, stick to beautiful thin flowers and herbs, like lavender. For a uniquely “barnyard” effect, consider adding wheat – or other earthy stems –  to the mix in your bouquets or decor.

Burlap is a great accent to any “rustic chic” wedding, and can accent any element: including invitations, table seating charts, favors, and reception table decor. Consider mixing burlap with lace for a fun and elegant look:

And of course, you can’t forget to add a “rustic” touch to your cake. The cake will stand at the center of attention – well, aside from the bride and groom! – at the reception, and deserves a splash of style. One of my favorite rustic cake elements is this wooden, hand-carved cake stand featured on Valo Photography’s site:

What elements and decor do you think are “must haves” for a rustic chic celebration? Will you be going rustic in 2013?
